Startling new figures suggest more people are being driven to the streets by the cost-of-living crisis. In 2022 the cost of living is set to soar, with increased energy prices, National Insurance hikes and inflation rising on goods and products. Between April and September, there were 5,712 people sleeping on the capital's streets- an increase of 21% compared with the same period last year. What do the figures show? Homeless charity Crisis said first-time rough sleepers primarily drove the rise. Who represents more than half of the 3,628 people on the streets between July and September. Last year, I had the privilege of reviewing the Horse Of The Year Show for the first time and having enjoyed the experience immensely, I looked forward to returning in 2022. It was great to be back this year, first of all, for Friday evening and then for a full day on Saturday. As always, there was a warm welcome from the Grandstand Media team, whose efficient organisation of the proceedings and friendly hospitality are such an important part of the event. Friday evening consisted of a mixture of showjumping, championships, scurry racing and pony games, along with an elegant and exciting display. It was an enjoyable variety and set the scene for a full day of entertainment on Saturday. It was interesting to begin the day with a wander around the retail area (something which I hadn't done before)and it was a real eye-opener to see so many different aspects of the equestrian world. Britain is facing a major leadership crisis amid Prime Minister Liz Truss's announced her resignation less than seven weeks into her team. During her tenure as Britain's shortest reigning prime minister, Truss saw the pound's value plummet. At the same time, she pushed for sweeping tax cuts on the rich.
