Homage to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev Dies at 91
Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of Soviet Union has died aged 19 in Moscow Central Clinical Hospital, he died after a long and serious illness.

In a barrage of tributes from all over the world to the man generally acknowledged for ending the cold war, Mikhail Gorbachev has been referred to as "one of the greatest figures of the 20th century."

Following his passing in Russia on Tuesday night at the age of 91, the former Soviet leader received ecstatic tributes from previous and current western leaders, political pundits, academics, historians, and celebrities.

President Joe Biden started the honors from the former cold war foe of the Soviet Union by calling him a man of "extraordinary vision" and praising him for guiding his nation toward reform.

The general secretary of the United Nations, António Guterres, described Gorbachev as a "unique statesman who changed the course of history."

"The world has lost a formidable global leader, devoted multilateralist, and tenacious peace campaigner. He wrote, "I'm terribly grieved by his passing.

The departing British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, stated that he "always respected the courage and integrity he demonstrated in bringing the cold war to a peaceful close."

One of the great personalities of the 20th century, Mikhail Gorbachev's pursuit of reform paved the way for diplomacy to prevail over violence, according to Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the UK opposition Labour Party.

He will always be regarded as the final Soviet leader to have the guts and conviction to put an end to the Cold War.

On Twitter early on Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron referred to Gorbachev as a "man of peace" and stated that he "opened a path of liberation for Russians." His dedication to European peace altered the course of our shared history.

However, the official response in Russia was far more subdued following the passing of the man who was accused of bringing chaos capitalism to the disintegrating Soviet empire.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose invasion of Ukraine is seen as an effort to restore some of the former Soviet borders, extended "his sincere sympathies" on Gorbachev's passing.

However, the former Soviet leader is praised by Western leaders and historians, while the Russian response to his passing was far more somber.
